2010-2011 Talented Teen
Jasmin
Eugene is a recent graduate of Xavier University
Preparatory (XUP) School and plans to attend
Xavier University of Louisiana in the fall where
she received an academic and talent scholarship.
She has decided to major in music performance to
pursue her ultimate ambition of becoming a world
renowned classical pianist. While attending
Xavier University, she wants to study abroad in
Europe.
During
high school, Jasmin was involved in many
activities and was given numerous awards. In
2006, she was a part of her school’s homecoming
court, cheerleading team, and she was an XUP
School Ambassador for high school recruitment. In
2008, she joined the diversity club, cross
country team, and track team. She also was in
the Student Council as Homeroom Representative,
a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and a
member of the National Honor Society.
During
her senior year, she was awarded the Loyola
University New Orleans Outstanding High School
Foreign Language Award, a Gold Medal in the
National Latin I Exam, a Gold Medal in the
District Rally for Latin I, and the
Congressional award from Congressman Cao which
recognized her outstanding leadership and
dedication to her school.
Besides her scholastic achievement and her
involvement in her school, Jasmin is also
involved in her community. In 2007, she
volunteered with the Common Ground Relief
helping with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
In 2008, she began to volunteer with the
Louisiana’s Children Museum and Louisiana Youth
Enhancement Services
(LA-YES) helping children
with mental disabilities. She
plans to continue volunteering with these
organizations.
Her
platform was to help raise funds for breast
cancer research. She believes that every woman
who is diagnosed deserves a fighting chance. She
wants to help continue the decline in breast
cancer deaths and inform women about breast
cancer and its risks. |
